Actor. Director. Author and producer because
the work wasn’t going to make itself.
Actor first — trained in New York, then twenty years of Melbourne stages and screens: Shepard, Mamet, Wilson, McDonagh, Guirgis, Letts. Nobody was going to hand me the part I wanted, so I built the room it could happen in. Co-founder of Human Sacrifice Theatre and The KIN Collective, founder of Corner Piece Pictures, director and producer when the work needed one. A production that got shut down became DOORMAN, and the story refused to die with the budget.
There are two kinds of actors: the ones who want the red carpet, and the ones who want to be in the room where a good story gets told. I’ve always been the second kind. Quiet doesn’t mean small.
Twenty years of being the artist in the room where the deal gets made teaches you exactly where artists get taken.
Why I built DOOR →Conversations, profiles and features about the person. Production reviews live on the Theatre and Film pages.
